Hatching Eggs
One dozen - 12 eggs (+ extras up to 18) are $50 plus $25 for postage USPS large -flat rate-box,
for a total of $75. When we are flush with eggs, we always send extra.
Day Old Characteristics
I do not sex chicks, they are sold as straight run. The percentage of pullet to cockerels by nature is on average 50/50.
If shipped 25 chicks is a minimum order. Their combined body mass keeps them warm during shipping.
Each chick can go three days without food and water for because of the absorption of their yolk sack.
Please be prepared to offer food, water and heat source when you receive them.
Chick Pricing and Policy
The cost of shipping 25 chicks is around $280, shipping USPS Express mail i for a total of $258 for 25 chicks.
If shipping exceeds this I will send you a copy of the receipt and ask for the remainder to be sent.
I will send a photo of the tracking number from the post office. A phone number must be supplied.
The post Office calls the number for their delivery purposes.
Please make sure to contact your Postoffice and Mailmyn to alert them of your incoming chicks. They also delight in hearing their peeps during delivery.
A $25 fee is charged for canceled orders once scheduled. Checks can be made out and mailed to: Woodland Cottage 458 Red Schoolhouse Rd, Fulton, NY 13069.

Each week there are a limited number of custom orders. I run 1 GQF Sportsman incubator and hatch weekly during the hatching season. Sometimes hatches don't go as planned. There may only be 15 chicks for each order. If it's a great hatch, there may be more than 25 chicks for each, in which case I include those as free extras. For chick orders, please plan on 25 chicks which is what you will be billed for. If there is fewer than 25, you will be sent a refund for any missing chicks from your order. If you are looking for 50 or more chicks. Shipping charges are the same for 50 chicks as for 25. There are no refunds or replacements for chicks lost in shipping.

Hatching eggs are selected from four breeding groups for the best possible assortment of genetics and colours. I work with a mix of the four imports. All, are pure Icelandic landrace chickens. Our breeding stock was obtained from David Grote, who obtained birds from the original importers and from a few known, reputable breeders. They come in a variety of colours, comb types and shank colours. We need to have a week or two notice before shipping hatching eggs to ensure availability and best genetic mix.
We are not a commercial hatchery, we are a small family based landrace conservancy farm. We take the preservation of the breed seriously and offer this service as a way to keep them relevant and from extinction.
Packaging Your Hatching Eggs for Shipping
Each egg is wrapped tissue and placed in an egg carton, each carton is then wrapped in bubble wrap. I use poly fill or bubble wrap to insulate and cushion your hatching eggs on all sides of the USPS Flat Rate Box. It works extremely well for shipping in both cold and warmer weather and holds up well to rough treatment during the shipping process.
I will begin hatching for the 2019 season in late February and March, for local pick-up orders. Due to the late frosts,
I expect to begin shipping chicks in late March or early April, this season, weather permitting and continue until it becomes too warm to ship them safely, usually late May or first week in June. I will resume again in the fall.

At the Farm
We will have a limited number of chicks and/or started birds available for local pick-up this summer, let us know if you are willing to pick your birds up at our farm. There is a “day old” 6 chick minimum for local pick up by NY state law,
Older birds 1 week old and older can be purchased singly. If you want larger numbers (3 or more,) you need to place an order. Please bring a clean travel carrier appropriate to transport your new birds.
We do not keep any other breeds of chicken on our farm, this guarantees the purity and preservation of our Icelandic’s genetic antiquity. We are NPIP certified #21-1622 and AI clean.
All started birds must be picked up at the farm. Roosters, when available, are free with the purchase of two or more pullets or laying hens. Visit our Facebook Page, Woodland Cottage Farm and Studio
for photos and more information about our preservation flock of Viking Chicken.
